Founded in 1972 by father and son, Leonard and Brooks Firestone, Firestone Vineyard has enjoyed 35 years of family stewardship. Recently, so that they might concentrate on their burgeoning beer business and smaller Curtis Winery, the Firestone family decided to sell their iconic winery.

In doing so, they turned to fellow Santa Barbara Vintner Bill Foleyas the logical next shepherd for the famous property. As the Firestone’s identified earlier on, Bill, too, recognized Santa Barbara County as the ideal location for the production of world class wines. Bill has vowed to continue the Firestone tradition in striving for the very best in vineyard management and cutting edge winemaking discipline.

The vineyard focuses on optimal physiological balance in the vines yielding wines that are brightly flavored, crisp and delicious. Estate Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah vineyards are located on a series of mesas that have gravelly sub-soils, ideally oriented for perfect exposure. The Firestone Vineyard tasting room offers regular winery tours, delicious wines to sample and an idyllic setting for al fresco picnics. Visit the “new” Firestone Vineyard and experience the vision of hospitality that is shared by Bill Foley and the legacy of the Firestone Family. www.firestonewine.com

Eos, the Greek Goddess of Dawn, opened the gates of heaven each morning allowing the Sun to rise. Fiercely passionate, she was cursed by Aphrodite for having an affair with Ares. Her punishment was an insatiable appetite for young men. At Eos – the winery – we’re just as passionate as our namesake, but our insatiable appetite is more wholesomely geared towards the production of great wines. Since the mid-1980s, we have built our reputation on dense reds, complex whites and luscious dessert wines from great AVAs throughout the state. www.eosvintage.com

Penman Springs

Perched on a hill overlooking the rolling hills of eastern Paso Robles wine country, Penman Springs Vineyard makes even first-time visitors feel like they’re coming home. The cozy farmhouse-turned-tasting room simply brims with genuine country charm, encouraging guests to step up for a warm chat and a taste of some wonderful wines.

Penman’s owners, Carl and Beth McCasland, who opened the tasting room in 2000, say that Penman Springs got its start as a way to keep Carl busy when he retired, and it has certainly done the trick. Knowing that the quality of the wine comes from the quality of the grapes, Carl makes vineyard management a top priority, utilizing various trellis systems to maximize sunlight and airflow to the grape canopy and applies sustainable farming practices.

With Winemaker Larry Roberts, Carl crafts his luscious grapes into Penman Springs wines. The wines, made from 100 percent estate fruit, range from traditional to lesser known varietals and blends. Come, feel welcome and Taste the Art at Penman Springs Vineyard Thursday thru Sunday from 11am to 5pm. www.penmansprings.com

Epiphany Cellars

Epiphany finds its identity and passion in the production of esoteric Rhone-based varietals and blends from some of the finest vineyard designates in California. Founded by Eli Parker, Epiphany was at first intended as a creative outlet for the then adventurous winemaking son of Fess Parker. Epiphany has transformed into a leading, contemporary producer of Rhone-based and esoteric varietal wines from Santa Barbara County, and a meaningful representation of the second generation of the Parker family name, and their continued dedication to ultra-premium wine production on the Central Coast.

Adelaida Description:

The synergy of unique “terroir”, sustainable agriculture and minimalist winemaking all come together in well balanced wines made at Adelaida Cellars. Named after a 19th century settlement in the Santa Lucia mountains, the winery lies on the west side of Paso Robles, some 15 miles from the fog shrouded Pacific coast at elevations of 2000 feet.

This dramatic terrain is synonymous with ancient calcareous soils of limestone and chalk, diurnal temperature changes of 40-50 degrees and inherently low yielding vines with concentrated grape flavors. The Adelaida Estate features four unique vineyard locations: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the historic microclimate of HMR Vineyard (established in 1964), Reserve quality Cabernet and Syrah from the steep rocky outcropping of the Viking Vineyard, mineral and dry-farmed Zinfandel from Michael’s Vineyard and fruit driven Rhône varietals from Anna’s Vineyard.

Enjoy the warm hospitality, beautiful property, and wine tasting daily from 10:00 – 5:00 PM. We feature tours and private tastings by appointment. 800.676.1232 or email [email protected].

CURTIS WINERY

We specialize in artisan Rhône-style wines from our estate vineyard in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Ynez Valley. Here, in 1995, we put down roots as one of California’s first wineries dedicated exclusively to Rhône-style wines. Since then, nothing has changed. We still live for Rhônes.

Under the direction of winegrower Chuck Carlson and winemaker Ernst Storm, we make our wines in fruit-forward, balanced style, with an emphasis on capturing the pure natural flavors of the vineyard.

Our wines fall into two tiers: Estate Rhône Varietals, composed of
small-production Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier and Roussanne from the Curtis Estate; and Heritage Series Blends, consisting of Rhône-style cuvees crafted for everyday enjoyment.

Our tasting room in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley offers a bright and vibrant environment for sampling and purchasing wine, as well as gift and food items from local artisans. We hope to see you soon.

We are a boutique winery in Paso Robles specializing in handcrafted wines. Our flagship wines are big, full bodied, dry farmed Zinfandel’s. Our whites, other red varietals and new red blend wines show the 40 years of experience wine maker Charlie Poalillo and co-winemaker Dave Garretson have using Paso Robles grapes. We feature live music most days and our patio invites friends to gather. Our stylish, rustic tasting room serves fresh flavorsome food and is open daily 11am – 5pm.

Established in 1992,Joyce and Charlie Poalillo started making wine in 1969. Falling in love with the winemaking lifestyle they pulled up roots in Los Angeles and moved to Paso Robles to follow their passion. Charlie ran his humble tasting room for 15 years before passing the torch to daughter Susan and son-in-law Dave two and a half years ago.

Come for the wine. Stay for the fun!

Visiting the mountain top where Opolo’s highest-elevation vineyard grows explains why co-owner Rick Quinn envisioned building his estate here. Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Zinfandel excelled here, proven by the vintners who began planting those varieties 14 years ago. Still, Quinn and his partner David Nichols know it takes more than spectacular views to attract wine connoisseurs.

The friendly, tasting room staff takes the intimidation away from wine tasting, making the experience enjoyable for everyone. With enticing aromas wafting in from the winery’s barbeque to the laughter and frivolity of the tasting room, you know you are in for a good time.

There is perhaps the more entertaining or relaxed winery experience to be had on the Central Coast. This is serious wine combined with serious fun!

Koehler Winery

Set amidst the lush canyons of eastern Santa Barbara County, Koehler Winery is located along the famed Foxen Canyon Trail. Koehler produces premium wines from the 67 acres of grapes grown on the property. The property is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sangiovese, Viognier, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet Franc.

Our winemaking philosophy is based on our passionate belief that in nature everything is in balance. We have found that this approach results in quality fruit from which we produce fine wines to please all palates.

Another contributing quality of Koehler wines is the remarkable partnership of our winemaker and vineyard manager. By nurturing the vines together, they insure by harvest the grapes achieve the essential character and flavor. Each varietal receives the personal attention it deserves, and we age our wines in the traditional style, releasing them only when they are ready. Thus every Koehler wine is bottled at the peak of perfection.
